First appeared in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen #2 in 1999 and was created by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill. Hawley Griffin/The Invisible Man is a member of the Murray Group whose superpower is invisibility, although this does not include his internal organs and blood. His name is taken from the 19th Century murderer Hawley Crippen.
In 1898, the British government assembles a team of heroes and monsters, who go on various adventures up to the modern day, witnessing the decay of western culture. The story is set in a world where all stories are true, at least to some extent, which leads to satire of their own time and ours.
