The story follows Vincent Valentino, a romantic cigarette boy working at a crumbling velvet theater, caught in the middle of a gangland turf war between cabaret criminals. When he meets Lyla Gardinier, an impossibly ethereal woman who may or may not exist, Vincent becomes convinced she holds the key to escaping his rotten life.
