Ryuko Matoi is a New Transfer Student at Honnouji Academy, a high school ruled with an iron fist by president Satsuki Kiryuin and her Absurdly Powerful Student Council, which in turn has power over the city it is located. Satsuki maintains absolute control over the school using Goku Uniforms, which grant supernatural strength to their wearer and are distributed only to her most loyal students. When Ryuko shows up in search of her father's murderer, she immediately suspects that Satsuki knows something and declares war on her. With the aid of a sentient uniform called Senketsu and a red half-scissor blade that can destroy Goku Uniforms, Ryuko fights to avenge her father and take down Honnouji Academy in the process while learning more about the mysterious Life Fibers woven into the Goku Uniforms that lend such power to the people who wear them, and their origins.
