Amara Ankara, 26, was adopted as a newborn by a wealthy Ankara family that owns luxury hotels across Turkey. She is completely Turkish in her upbringing, education, and values. She has never known her birth family or culture. She works in the family hotel business, managing properties and maintaining the family brand. When a DNA ancestry test connects her with her biological family — and she meets Malik, a man her own age from a refugee community who shares her heritage — her entire sense of self is destabilized. Malik is a social worker helping refugees navigate the Turkish system. He is critical of privilege and complicit systems. He is also undeniably attracted to Amara, but he refuses to romanticize what she represents or ignore the contradictions in her existence. The series is a journey of Amara discovering her heritage, understanding the privilege that erased it, and reckoning with the question of whether you can truly belong to two worlds or whether choosing one means betraying the other.
