The Justice Society or as it is known also Justice Society of America is a group of superheroes owned by US publisher DC Comics , and was the first group of superheroes to historically appear in Stories in Comics . Created by editor Sheldon Mayer and writer Gardner Fox, SJA, as it is also known, had its first appearance in All-Star Comics #3 (1940), in the middle of the Golden Age of comics. The group included the original versions of Mr. Fate ( Dr. Fate ), theOriginal Green Lantern ( Green Lantern ), Jay Garrick ( Flash ), the Hour-Man ( Hourman ), the Sandman , the Hawkman ( Hawkman ), Atom ( Atom ), and Spectre ( Spectre ).
