In this retelling of the formation of the Justice League, classic heroes meet at low points in their lives. Superman discovers his status as the last Kryptonian while battling a brutish bounty hunter (a herald of a more dangerous foe to come), Dick Grayson must step into the spotlight as the new Batman after Bruce Wayne is left incapacitated, Wonder Woman makes a dangerous pact with a band of immortals in order to return home to Themiscyra after the island is taken over by a vengeful witch, John Stewart struggles to survive when his first mission as a Green Lantern goes horribly wrong, Wally West must run the gauntlet in the sudden absence of his mentor Barry Allen, and Arthur Curry, a jovial swashbuckling king, faces off against enemies from within his own throne room.
