Things get worse when an official letter comes in which informs them that the tax office has confiscated their home, until they can pay their taxes. Pa hasn't paid because he can't read either, and with Ma so stressed about their poor conditions and the upcoming baby, Pa and Juice decide to keep this from her and seek some work to pay the taxes.
