The yellow mongoose, sometimes referred to as the red meerkat, is a member of the mongoose family. It averages about 0.45 kg in weight and about 510 mm in length. It lives in open country, semi-desert scrubland and grasslands in Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Yellow mongooses are carnivores, and while they mostly feed on termites, grasshoppers and crickets, they will also eat eggs, rodents, small birds, reptiles, including snakes and lizards, spiders and scorpions when they have the opportunity.
