An 18-year-old girl cursed by her village as mijime, meaning all she touches is doomed. Her mother died giving birth to her, and her abusive father blames her for every misfortune. She wears a bruise on her cheek and carries the weight of undeserved shame. When she meets Wander, a runaway slave, she sees a kindred spirit. She frees him from a cage, shares her dreams of escape, and kisses him through the bars. Her accidental death at her father's hands sends Wander on his fateful journey. She is resurrected in the end.
