Jason is a 2022 American action horror film directed by Breck Eisner and produced and written by Ridley Scott, based on the Friday the 13th character Jason Voorhees. The film serves as both the twelfth installment and a homage to the Friday the 13th film series while retconning Friday the 13th Part II and Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. It stars Joe Manganiello as the eponymous character and is supported by Adrienne King and Corey Feldman, reprising their roles as Alice Hardy and Tommy Jarvis. Set in 2015, 30 years after the events of The Final Chapter, Alice (King) meets Tommy (Feldman) for the first time and he tells her the story of how he killed Jason, even taking her to where he killed him, and then the lake where his mother threw his body in. However, when they drive away, Jason suddenly awakens and emerges from the lake, following them. It's up to Alice and Tommy to stop Jason and throw him back in the lake where he drowned in the first place, Camp Crystal Lake. The film had its world premiere on November 17th, 2022, and was released on December 9th. Despite a mixed response, Jason was a box-office success, grossing over $601 million, and is the best-reviewed film in the series. Since its release, the film has been reappraised and is now considered one of Eisner's finest films of his career, with praise for the performances of Manganiello, King and Feldman. A sequel is in development, with Eisner set to direct again and the cast set to return.
