Tony Stark has spent years perfecting his Iron Man armor, but a new threat forces him to question the limits of his technology. A mysterious experimental serum known as Extremis is being developed as a military enhancement capable of transforming ordinary humans into living weapons. Its most successful subject is Mallen, a violent man whose body is transformed into something faster, stronger and far more dangerous than anything Tony has ever encountered. Tony first encounters Mallen during a violent attack on a city street. Confident in his armor, Tony confronts him, only to discover that Mallen is far more powerful than expected. The battle leaves Tony critically injured and his armor nearly destroyed. Realizing that his technology will never be fast enough to protect him, Tony takes a desperate step and integrates the Extremis technology directly into his own body, connecting his nervous system to the armor and allowing him to control it from within. Now more powerful than ever, Tony tracks Mallen down and confronts him in a final battle. Extremis pushes both men beyond their physical limits, but Tony ultimately defeats Mallen and makes the difficult decision to kill him, knowing that the serum has transformed him into a threat that cannot be contained. The experience forces Tony to confront the consequences of turning himself into his own weapon, while also opening a new chapter in the evolution of Iron Man. Post-credit scene: Inside his laboratory, Tony begins building several new suits of armor. Among the prototypes are two designs labeled War Machine and Iron Patriot, hinting that Iron Man’s technology is about to become something much bigger.
