Shane Black (born December 16, 1961) is an American filmmaker and actor who has written such films as Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad, The Last Boy Scout, Last Action Hero, and The Long Kiss Goodnight. He is also known as the original creator of the Lethal Weapon franchise. As an actor, Black is best known for his role as Rick Hawkins in Predator (1987). He made his directorial debut with the film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005. Black went on to write and direct Iron Man 3 (2013), The Nice Guys (2016), and The Predator (2018).

After the events of the Avengers, Tony Stark's health deteriorates due to his alcoholism and PTSD from the battle of New York. As Stark Industries struggles, Tony recklessly spirals, straining his relationships with Pepper Potts and James "Rhodey" Rhodes. Meanwhile, Anton Vanko, a vengeful man whose family was killed by Stark weapons years ago, creates his own arc reactor technology and attacks Tony at a Monaco racetrack, under the alias Crimson Dynamo. Tony narrowly defeats him, but Vanko's expertise catches the attention of Obadiah Stane who is now Stark’s business rival. Stane hires Vanko to develop a line of weaponized suits to rival Iron Man. Rhodey takes one of Tony’s suits, modified into the War Machine by the military, and confronts Tony, who’s eventually inspired to improve his arc reactor technology after uncovering hidden plans from his father. With a new element powering his reactor, Tony revitalizes his health and takes up the fight against Stane and Vanko. Vanko unleashes an army of drones at the Stark Expo, leading to a climactic showdown. Tony and Rhodey team up to destroy the drones and defeat Vanko, who has suited up in a second version of the crimson dynamo suit. Tony and Rhodey win, Pepper is made Stark industries' ceo, with Tony becoming a full time superhero.
