Indy's brash, 21-year-old student assistant from Brooklyn, Betsy stows away in a banana barrel to follow him to Africa. Fiercely loyal and recklessly in love with her professor, she threatens suicide when rejected, then douses herself in bourbon. Over the course of the expedition, she matures from obsessive groupie into a capable young anthropologist, ultimately choosing a career with Clare over a doomed romance with Indy.
