Saoirse Una Ronanย (/หsษหrสษย หuหnษย หroสnษn/ย SUR-shษย OO-nษย ROH-nษn;ย born 12 April 1994) is an American-born Irish actress. Primarily known forย her workย inย period dramasย since adolescence, she has receivedย various accolades, including aย Golden Globe Award and nominations for fourย Academy Awardsย and sevenย British Academy Film Awards.
Ronan made her acting debut in 2003 on the Irish medical drama seriesย The Clinicย and had her breakthrough role as a precocious teenager in the period drama filmย Atonementย (2007), which earned her a nomination for theย Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her career progressed with starring roles inย The Lovely Bonesย (2009) andย Hannaย (2011) and a supporting role inย The Grand Budapest Hotelย (2014). Ronan received critical acclaim and nominations for theย Academy Award for Best Actressย for playing an Irish immigrant in New York inย Brooklynย (2015), the eponymous high school senior inย Greta Gerwig'sย Lady Birdย (2017)โwhich won her aย Golden Globeโandย Jo Marchย in Gerwig'sย Little Womenย (2019).
