Sartana is a fictional anti-hero character from a series of Italian spaghetti western films, first played by Gianni Garko. Originating as an antagonist in the 1966 film Blood at Sundown, the character was later re-envisioned as a smarter, gadget-using hero for the official series, which began with If You Meet Sartana, Pray for Your Death in 1968. In the films, he is typically a lone gunman, gambler, and detective who gets involved in complex schemes to make money, often involving intricate plots and mechanical gadgets.
In the third film he is played by George Hilton and his characterisation has some noticeable differences to Garko's portrayal, and is sometimes debated by fans whether they are playing the same person. As with Django there were a number of unofficial movies made to cash in on the success of the original five films.
