Manuel "Cuchillo" Sánchez is a fictional Mexican anti-hero and peasant who appears as a central character in two iconic Spaghetti Western films directed by Sergio Sollima - The Big Gundown (1966) and Run, Man, Run! (1968).
He is a wily, elusive, and hyperactive petty criminal or peasant who often finds himself caught between corrupt officials, revolutionaries, and bounty hunters. Unlike many invincible Western heroes, Cuchillo is a survivor from a humble background, often seen as a symbol of the struggle against injustice and inequality.
These films are often grouped together with Face to Face (1967) as part of Sollima's Political Trilogy, though Cuchillo only appears in the first and third installments.
