Set right after the events of season 3, Carly and Spencer finally reunite with their mother who just showed up unexpectedly. Mrs. Shay is really proud that her daughter and Freddie are a couple, and she's proud that Spencer became rich doing the things he loves, despite dropping out of law school. She also says that she has watched EVERY episode of "iCarly" since the beginning. Apparently, she owes somebody skeptical a huge amount of money and she has come to ask Spencer for a loan. Carly asks why she didn't just call them, and it was because she's in so much debt that she doesn't have phone service. After a couple of episodes where Carly processes what's going on, Spencer agrees to give Mrs. Shay the amount of money, and to support her the gang goes with her on a road trip to meet the guy she has to pay back. Throughout the trip, Freddie thinks about asking Carly "the big question." Before they left, Mrs. Benson gave Freddie his grandmother's ring. They take a pit stop for a bathroom break and a drink. At the bar or restaurant, a biker gang shows u bothering everyone and Spencer or Harper accidentally starts a fight with them, and just when things are about to get violent, the biker leader tells everyone to stop, because she recognises Carly. She removes her helmet, and Carly says, "SAM?"
