The main villain of the story. An archdeacon and judge who abuses his power and deals harshly with those he considers criminals. He is considered a tyrant, but he justifies himself that he does it by divine will, believing that what he does is the right thing. He has a racist hatred towards gypsies, so he started a manhunt against them. We are deepened that the reason for his hatred is because his brother Jehan died of syphilis after having relations with a gypsy, for which he made said crusade to avenge him. We also see that he is Quasimodo's uncle, and raised him isolating him from society. It would deepen us that despite everything, deep down he was fond of Quasimodo.
