After breaking free from the presence of Collector, Howard escapes to NYC to start a new life, and when he encounters a woman named Beverly Switsler being attacked by thugs, he intervenes and saves her life. Now Howard has a bounty on his head via the Hand Clan, who the thugs were working for.
