A nonlinear biopic follows Werner Herzog from his impoverished postwar childhood through his obsessive rise as a filmmaker, interweaving his increasingly dangerous productions, from Aguirre to Fitzcarraldo, with his volatile, symbiotic relationship with Klaus Kinski. Throughout these decades of Herzog life up to the creation of one of his most acclaimed documentaries, Grizzly Man, Herzog is forced to confront an unsettling reflection of his own lifelong obsession with pushing beyond the boundaries between art, nature, and reality.
