Wanda Sykes (born March 7, 1964) is an American writer, stand-up comedian and actress. She earned the 1999 Emmy Award for her writing on The Chris Rock Show. In 2004 Entertainment Weekly named her as one of the 25 funniest people in America. She is well known for her role as Barb on The New Adventures of Old Christine and for her appearances on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm. In November 2009 The Wanda Sykes Show, her own late-night talkshow, premiered on Fox, airing Saturday nights. The film begins with the five muses, "Gods of the arts and pro-claimers of heroines", telling the story of how Zenaida came to power and prevented the monstrous Titanesses from ruling the world. This leads to the day Helene is born to Zenaida and Heraclitus, much to the pleasure of the other gods and goddesses except Hadessa, who receives word from the Fates that Helene will one day rise to power and prevent her from taking control of the world. She sends her minions, Pain and Panic, to kidnap Helene and feed her a potion that will strip her of her immortality; however, they are interrupted by Amaryllis and Alekos and, while Helene becomes mortal, she retains her goddess-like strength (for the potion to fully work, Helene had to drink every last drop, but missed one when they were interrupted).
