Fan Casting Rick Grimes in HBO's The Walking Dead

He is a former police deputy from Cynthiana, Kentucky, who was shot in the line of duty and fell into a coma, only to awaken and find himself in the midst of the apocalypse. He searches for his wife Lori, and son Carl, and encounters many survivors along the way. He gradually becomes the leader of the group and is often faced with many leadership struggles, overcoming them and changing his mindset to prioritize safety in numbers. Rick's leadership qualities and experience lead him to become the leader of a sizable community near Washington, D.C., continuing to deal with many human threats along the way that cost the lives of his friends and loved ones. He acts as the main instigator in the war against the Saviors and years later, leads the network of communities against the Whisperers. Rick was eventually able to reform a large network of communities known as the Commonwealth, but later when Rick deprived Pamela Milton of leadership in the Commonwealth, her son Sebastian Milton assassinated Rick by shooting him to death. Carl honors his father's legacy by sparing Sebastian's life, much like his late father once spared Negan in the hopes it would allow them to build a more civilized world. Several years after his death, Rick is remembered as the person responsible for uniting everyone and for inspiring communities to change the world for the better and for the future of civilization. In honor of his decisions since the start of the apocalypse, a statue was built in his homage and his story keeps inspiring future generations.
