In the first book he is in his older 40s. but in the Great War trilogy, which is his last book appearance, so ideally an actor in his 40s to 50s that put can put on makeup to look 75. He is a loud mouth general who has a lot of bad ideas and is stuck in his ways. His brother died in the first book and has been hellbent on revenge towards the CSA ever since. Not many fighting scenes and mostly just scenes with his adjutant Abner Dowling, and wife Libbie Custer.
