I'm not sure who to cast, but I like the play version where Hermione is black; and likely mixed. I think her having parent(s) who came from an underprivileged background, who likely had to work harder than others to become dentists, would put a larger value on education and hard work in a unique way. Also, knowing this background makes her SPEW anti-slavery passions more personal, and less virtue signaling. This would also add a bit more sting to the slur of mudblood if she were used to this kind of racial or status prejudices.
