Jim Warren is a Warrant Officer in the US Army who flies AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters in the 82nd Airborne Division. Previously, he was an artillery sergeant in the Pennsylvania National Guard and fought in Korea. Ever since then, he and his wife Fran (nee Campbell) owned a farm west of Philadelphia while he worked as an accountant and she worked as a grade school teacher on the sidelines.
The conflict in Vietnam stirs, and Jim feels the itch to serve again. He applies for the Warrant Officer-Helicopter Pilot program, gets assigned to the 82nd Aviation Regiment (of the 82nd Airborne), and deploys to the godforsaken jungle country in hopes of winning the hearts and minds of the people from the south. At the same time, he and Fran have to fight their inner demons if he were to come back home alive.
