The mysterious and enigmatic being who seems to always be observing Gordon Freeman's journey from a distance. Possessing supernatural powers and speaking in an unusual and uncanny cadence, he approaches Gordon at the end of Half-Life 1 to offer him the choice between some sort of job, or a battle that he cannot win. After Gordon accepts his job offer, he places him in stasis for about 20 years to later reemerge at the beginning of Half-Life 2.
