In 1950s New York City, gamblers, hustlers, missionaries, and nightclub performers collide in the colorful underworld of Damon Runyon. Nathan Detroit, a charming but perpetually broke operator, needs $1,000 to secure a location for his illegal floating craps game. With his longtime fiancée, nightclub performer Miss Adelaide, demanding that he finally marry her after fourteen years of excuses, Nathan sees an opportunity. He challenges legendary gambler Sky Masterson to take Sarah Brown, the beautiful and fiercely devoted leader of the Save-A-Soul Mission, to dinner in Havana. Certain he cannot lose, Sky accepts the wager. Sarah, desperate to save her struggling mission, reluctantly agrees to the date—but what begins as a bet soon becomes something neither of them expected. After an unforgettable night in Havana, Sky and Sarah return to New York genuinely in love, only for Nathan's schemes and a devastating misunderstanding to drive them apart. As the craps game moves underground and Sarah believes Sky has betrayed her, Sky realizes he must prove that his feelings are real. He makes one final wager: if he wins, the city's gamblers must attend the Save-A-Soul Mission's revival meeting. His gamble succeeds, bringing a crowd of sinners to the mission and revealing Sky's willingness to change. Meanwhile, Nathan finally admits how deeply he loves Adelaide, ending fourteen years of excuses. As Sarah and Adelaide decide to marry their men and reform them afterward, two unlikely couples find happiness amid the chaos of New York. Weeks later, Nathan has traded gambling for a newsstand, Sky has joined Sarah's mission, and the city comes together to celebrate their long-awaited marriages in a dazzling musical finale.
