Buddy continues to wrestle with the Red, trying to pull out of his role but the Red pull him back in and deepens its hold, making him more and more psychotic and aggressive. He develops a hatred for the way humans interact with animals and begins a cult following. He meets Annie Cassidy, a true believers who also has ties to the Red, and has an affair with her. As she and Buddy become close, Ellen grows distant. Buddy and Annie stage a mass riot of animals in Washington DC, for which he is arrested. But he becomes an icon for many, expanding the cult which sees Maxine as it's savior.
