Keegan-Michael Key (born March 22, 1971) is an American actor and comedian, best known for starring in the Comedy Central sketch series Key & Peele and for his six seasons as a cast member on MADtv. He has also appeared in the films Wonka, Toy Story 4, and Pitch Perfect 2. Key was born in Southfield, Michigan and raised in Detroit. His father is African-American and his mother is European-American. He was adopted as a child. In 1989 he graduated from Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, Michigan. Key attended the University of Detroit as an undergraduate and earned his Master of Fine Arts at the Pennsylvania State University School of Theatre. While at The University of Detroit Mercy, he was a brother of Phi Kappa Theta.

After the death of the Guardians of the Universe at the heads of the Sinestro Corps, Hal Jordan is nominated by his fellow Green Lantern members to be the lead Guardian of the Universe with John Stewart; Tomar-Re and Kilowog as his fellow companions. On the path to become the lead Guardian, Hal makes a plead that he will be in search for the forgotten and missing Green Lantern Corps members of the universe, starting with veteran Green Lantern members Alan Scott who spent years in retirement from the Corps as he was fighting alongside the Justice Society of America. Hal continues his search for lost members of the Corps before he gets trapped in the antimatter universe and approaches the planet of Qward. Hal discovers that Green Lantern members are being kept hostage, weakened and drained of their powers. Hal in an attempt to save the members is trapped and caged up, there he meets fellow Corps members Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and Jessica Cruz. All three share how they joined the Corps and how they were captured. Hal finds a way to break them free however at the cost of him being taken to the ruler of Qward Parallax, an entity that absorbs life forces to become stronger than ever. Parallax drains the fear out of Hal which includes the end of the Green Lantern Corps, the Justice League and the death of Carol Ferris. Parallax now fully in control of Hal’s power brainwashes Hal into disowning the Corps, siding with Parallax and his fellow entities.
