Hal Jordan, a gifted and cocky test pilot, is given an alien ring by a dying alien that bestows him with otherworldly powers and inducts him into the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force that has existed for centuries, alongside John Stewart, an African American U.S. Marine and Guy Gardner, a sarcastic and abrasive social welfare caseworker.
Together, they are called upon to stop Thaal Sinestro, a fallen Green Lantern who wants revenge against the Green Lantern Corps for dismissing him, and who, alongside the mutated criminal genius Hector Hammond, plans to unleash an ancient evil across the universe.
