Young artist Kyle Rayner is unexpectedly chosen to be a Green Lantern. Veterans Hal Jordan and John Stewart take him under their wing. Hal pushes Kyle to trust his instincts, while John teaches discipline. Their training is shaken when Kyle’s girlfriend, Alexandra, is murdered by the rage-fueled Red Lanterns. Consumed by grief, Kyle is tempted to join the Red Lantern Corps, led by Atrocitus, who hopes to corrupt him. Hal and John struggle over how to guide Kyle, ultimately pulling him back from the brink. When Atrocitus launches a full-scale attack on Oa, Hal sacrifices himself by overcharging his ring to save Kyle and the Corps. Inspired by Hal’s final words, Kyle masters his willpower, defeats Atrocitus with John’s help, and fully embraces his role as a Green Lantern.
