Hall Jordan returns to Earth after three years of training in OA, being the Green Lantern assigned to protect the Earth sector. While trying to reconnect with people from his past, especially his old flame Carol Ferris, he faces arms trafficking with alien technology in his hometown of Coast City. However, even when dealing with Intergang, he feels bored due to the lack of space adventures promised to him by the Corps. Hall Jordan's actions in disrupting alien arms trafficking draw the attention of Neal Emerson, a scientist working for Intergang who begins to become obsessed with Green Lantern's powers. He then tries to replicate these powers in an experiment, but things don't go as expected, turning him into Doctor Polaris. Blaming Green Lantern for his situation, he decides to do everything he can to destroy him. Now, it's up to Hall Jordan to face his first supervillain, while learning that there's more to being a Green Lantern, to being a hero, than he learned in his troop training.
