Keegan-Michael Key (born March 22, 1971) is an American actor and comedian, best known for starring in the Comedy Central sketch series Key & Peele and for his six seasons as a cast member on MADtv. He has also appeared in the films Wonka, Toy Story 4, and Pitch Perfect 2. Key was born in Southfield, Michigan and raised in Detroit. His father is African-American and his mother is European-American. He was adopted as a child. In 1989 he graduated from Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, Michigan. Key attended the University of Detroit as an undergraduate and earned his Master of Fine Arts at the Pennsylvania State University School of Theatre. While at The University of Detroit Mercy, he was a brother of Phi Kappa Theta.

Hal Jordan is a test pilot working at Ferris Aircraft; following the footsteps of his late father. Hal has always had the reputation of being among the best of the best, but has never been afraid of breaking the rules, which has always annoyed his girlfriend Carol Ferris. One night a spacecraft, lands on the side of the beach next to where Hal lives, Hal oversees the crash before realising a body stuck inside the spacecraft. After rushing to retrieve the body, the man introduces himself as Abin Sur from Sector 2814. Abin Sur was in battle with Atrocitus, the leader of the Red Lantern Corps, in battle he became weaken and he was able to escape before crashing on Earth. Abin Sur hands Hal a green ring as he is chosen to become the new member of the Green Lantern Corps. Abin Sur tells Hal to take the Lantern and speak the oath, before he eventually dies in Hal’s arms.
