Spider-Man is a 2007 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. Directed by Gore Verbinski from a screenplay by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, it is the first film in Verbinski's Spider-Man trilogy (2007–2013). Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films in association with Marvel Studios, it stars Drake Bell, Jim Carrey, Sara Paxton, Hayden Christensen, Salma Hayek and Jason Bateman. The plot follows the timid teenager Peter Parker, who gains superhuman abilities after being bitten by a genetically engineered spider. He adopts the masked persona "Spider-Man" and begins to fight crime in New York City, facing the malevolent Green Goblin in the process.
