In 1954, the US military tested a hydrogen bomb on Bikini Atoll. However, things go very wrong when a giant reptilian creature, known as Godzilla, awakens. Many years later, in 2014, Ford Brody, a Navy bomb expert, reunites with his family in San Francisco when he is forced to go to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe. Soon, both men are swept up in an escalating crisis as Godzilla emerges from the sea to fight malevolent enemies that threaten humanity's survival. The creatures leave huge destruction in their wake as they march toward their final battleground: San Francisco.
