In the Ghostrunner series, players assume the role of Jack, a cybernetically enhanced warrior navigating a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world. In the first installment, following a global catastrophe known as the Burst, humanity's remnants reside within Dharma Tower. Jack awakens with no memory and is guided by the Architect, an AI representing the tower's creator, Adam. Tasked with overthrowing the tyrannical Keymaster, Mara, who seized control through a coup, Jack battles through the tower, ultimately confronting and defeating both Mara and the Architect to liberate the remaining inhabitants. In Ghostrunner 2, set after the fall of the Architect and the Keymaster, Dharma Tower descends into chaos as various factions vie for dominance. Jack collaborates with the Climbers, a rebel group, to establish a governing council. A new threat emerges from the Asura, the original Ghostrunners who have resurfaced under the leadership of Mitra. Jack's journey leads him beyond Dharma Tower into the desolate Outside, where he uncovers the origins of the Ghostrunners and confronts Mitra to prevent the annihilation of the tower's inhabitants. After defeating Mitra, Jack decides to leave Dharma Tower to discover his own identity.
