In the end, while Godzilla and Gamera fight in the ocean, MechaGodzilla on it's last legs fires the Oxygen Destroyer onto them. Godzilla emerges, roaring with his face melting away as Gamera pulls him back down. Just before they both turn to bone and disappear, Gamera grabs Godzilla's heart and crushes it with his hand. Godzilla is dead, forever. But much like in the 54 film, while peace can strive again, nobody's happy. Their victory came at a price. Ogata says with tears in his eyes his last words: "My friend had hoped we never use his weapon again, and we have failed him. I pray there will never be another Godzilla... again." The music plays "Prayer for Peace" as we dissolve to the Lucky Dragon. and the film ends.
