Robert's Rebellion, also known as the War of the Usurper, is a conflict in the Game of Thrones books between the royalist army and rebel forces. The rebellion begins when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen kidnaps Lyanna Stark, the betrothed of Robert Baratheon. When Lyanna's father and brother protest to King Aerys, he kills them in front of the Royal Court. Aerys then demands the heads of Robert and Lyanna's other brother, Eddard Stark, who are in the care of Jon Arryn. Lord Arryn raises his banners in rebellion and sends Robert and Eddard back to their lands to gather men.
