Christopher McQuarrie (born October 25, 1968) is an American screenwriter, film director, and producer. He received the BAFTA Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the neo-noir mystery film The Usual Suspects (1995). He made his directorial debut with the crime thriller film The Way of the Gun (2000). McQuarrie is a frequent collaborator with Tom Cruise, having written and directed the action films Jack Reacher (2012), as well as four instalments of the Mission: Impossible film series: Rogue Nation (2015), Fallout (2018), Dead Reckoning (2023), and The Final Reckoning (2025). He was also a part of the writing and/or producing team on the Cruise films Valkyrie (2008), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), The Mummy (2017), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022), the last of which received Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture. 2090. Two intercontinental powers, the Oceania Continental Union (OCU) and the United States of the New Continent (USNC), have been locked into a long-standing dispute over a territory known as Huffman Island. Amidst this political standoff, a group of rebels known as the "Canyon Crows" seek to unravel hidden, dark conspiracies pertaining to corruption within both sides, which mainly deals with human genetic engineering, black market deals, and political bribery. Stuck in the middle of this conflict is a young man named Lloyd Clive. Lloyd is the founder of the "Crows" who initially served in the OCU Army Royal Mobile Commando Regiment as a junior officer. He was betrothed to a fellow platoon leader named Karen Moore, but it was not meant to be. Having lost Karen in the early stages of the First Huffman Conflict, Lloyd sets out for revenge against those who have supposedly taken his love away from him. Will he ever find the redemption he was looking for? Or, will he become one of the dark figures he sought to destroy?
