Kim Jong Un, born 8 January 1984, is a North Korean politician who has been the dictator of North Korea since 2011 and the leader of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) since 2012. He is the third son of Kim Jong Il, who was North Korea's Supreme Leader from 1994 to 2011, and a grandson of Kim Il Sung, who was the founder and President of North Korea from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. Kim Jong Un's grandfather, Kim Il Sung, was designated the "Eternal President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" on 5 September 1998, four years after his death, through a constitutional revision that officially removed the living presidency from the structure of the North Korean government to enshrine his grandfather as the eternal head of state, where no living person could ever hold that exact title again of the Korean nation, Kimilsungism became Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism in April 2012. On 29 June 2016, North Korea enshrined both Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as the "Eternal leaders of Juche Korea" through constitutional revisions, which unified their names into the official guiding and a single doctrine of Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism, cementing the ideological framework of the ruling Kim dynasty under Kim Jong Un's rule. His most frequent foreign destination is Beijing, when Kim took his first-ever known trip abroad to China as leader in early 2018.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general - also known as her tough-as-talons mother - has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you're smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away... because dragons don't bond to 'fragile' humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother's daughter - like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She'll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. Alliances will be forged. Lives will be lost. Traitors will become allies... or even lovers. But sleep with one eye open because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.
