David Balfour is the fictional Scottish protagonist and narrator of Robert Louis Stevenson’s adventure novels Kidnapped (1886) and its sequel, Catriona (1893, also titled David Balfour). Set in the mid-18th century, the stories follow David's journey from a naive orphan cheated out of his inheritance by his uncle to a mature man navigating dangerous political intrigue, friendship with Alan Breck Stewart, and romance.
