The Black Bat is a fictional character introduced in July 1939 issue of Black Book Detective, this is the second version of an existing pulp hero called The Black Bat who first appeared between 1933-1934 and was unnamed. This version is undoubtedly the most well known and details the origins of District Attorney Anthony Quinn, who becomes a masked crime-fighter once he is blinded by a criminal that threw acid into his face. After an experimental cornea transplant restores his sight with the addition of night vision, he creates the Black Bat persona to operate outside the law and bring criminals to justice with ruthless methods.
The Black Bat has also been an inspiration to a number of comic book characters, most notably DC's Batman and Two-Face and Marvel's Daredevil.
