Wally Gator is a anthropomorphic Alligator who is more comfortable at home. In the Zoo Mr Twiddle is a zookeeper who watches Wally because he sometimes escapes the zoo so he could know what are things are like outside.
Obviously, don't nominate any human characters. Hybrids like Cheetah or The Lizard are okay, as are shapeshifters with one set animal form (eg Professor McGonagall.)
