Following the Avengers' battle against Loki, Earth becomes vulnerable to other dimensions. A mysterious rift opens, and the Future Foundation is sent to investigate. Reed Richards identifies the phenomenon as a dimensional portal and, despite warnings, leads the mission into it. Soon something goes wrong: a cosmic energy strikes the group, forcing a chaotic retreat. Reed witnesses unspeakable horrors and falls into a coma. Upon awakening, he discovers what the others already knew: their bodies are being transformed. He tries to stop this mutation but fails: Johnny controls fire, Susan becomes invisible, Reed can stretch his body, and Ben is transformed into a stone creature. The government and SHIELD intervene under the pretext of helping, but Reed realizes they are being seen as guinea pigs. Ben blames Reed for his condition, falling into depression for having become a monster; Johnny is thrilled with his powers and the adventures he can have; and Susan struggles to regain a normal life, even knowing that normal no longer exists. Consumed by guilt, Reed searches for a cure, working day and night without stopping. But when the rift returns, bringing Annihilus from the Negative Zone and with the Avengers unavailable, they are the only hope. It's time to put aside their differences and unite to save the world. More than heroes, they are a family. Sometimes families fight, but true families always find their way back to each other. This is the birth of the Fantastic Four.
