He has been married to actress Talia Balsam since 1998 and they have a son, Henry.

Set in the 1960's, The Fantastic Four are a well established superhero team on earth, having had their powers for a good while now. The leader of the team, Reed Richards is constantly making advancements in the field of science and technology, by coming up with new ways to revolutionize the world as it is. He is accompanied on his journeys by his Wife, Sue and her younger brother Johnny as well as Reed's old college best friend, Ben Grimm, who also possess super human abilities. Reed is a curious man, constantly trying to discover new things in the world he lives in, in his search to learn more about his universe and others, he discovered the negative zone. Reed creates a portal that connects his world to the negative zone and with a little persuading manages to get Sue, Johnny and Ben to accompany him as he goes in to discover what lies beyond the portal. When they get to the negative zone they soon discover it was far more dangerous than they were expecting and end being stuck there while being hunted by the evil Annihilus. Reed must figure out a way to reconnect the portal from the negative zone to his own world in order to save him and his family. Once they finally defeat Annihilus, they are able to return to earth, however since time works differently in the negative zone they find themselves in 2024, having to now fit in to a brand new world and galaxy than the one they had once lived in.
