Sergei Mikhailovich Grinkov (Russian: Сергей Михайлович Гриньков; February 4th, 1967 – November 20th, 1995) was a Soviet and Russian pair skater. Together with his skating partner and wife Ekaterina Gordeeva, he was the 1988 and 1994 Olympic Champion and a four-time World Champion (1986, 1987, 1989, 1990).
Grinkov and Gordeeva had retired from competitive skating after winning gold in 1988 to focus on professional events, but the ISU changed the rules and allowed professionals to compete in the Olympics as long as they competed at amateur qualifying events, allowing Grinkov and Gordeeva to make a comeback in 1994. The two would return to professional events following winning their second gold medal. On November 20th, 1995 while practicing for an upcoming ice show, Grinkov collapsed after suffering a massive heart attack. He was only 28 years old.
