Kim Il-sung was the President of North Korea DPRK from 1948 to 1994. On 5 September 1998, a constitutional amendment abolished the presidency and declared him the "Eternal President". North Korea is the world's only necrocracy, a state governed by a deceased leader which formally abolished the living office of the presidency by the Constitution of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
