Mihail Valentin is a mid-sixty Russian arms trader with flowing gray hair, introduced in the Caracas prologue as the initial target of Kane and Cosgrove's mercenary team. He is the original owner of "The Skeleton Key"—an encrypted microchip containing satellite detonation codes for every active nuclear warhead formerly under USSR possession. After being captured by the CIA, Valentin cuts a deal for asylum in exchange for the chip and full cooperation. He reappears in the Alaskan climax as the buyer, commissioning Cosgrove to steal the chip back from Retomoto. Valentin is cowardly, desperate, and ultimately disposable; he is killed by Lynch, who thrusts a shard of glass into his stomach and rips it upward to his throat.
