Agent Jeffries is the young, earnest partner to the unhinged Agent Carmikael. Green but capable, Jeffries serves as the straight man to Carmikael's chaos—taking notes, asking logical questions, and getting dismissed with sarcastic barbs. He accompanies Carmikael from the prison bus investigation to the Alaska climax, where he heroically infiltrates Valentin's barge alone, saving Lynch's life before taking two bullets to the back from Cosgrove. His death is the film's most tragic, a quiet, undeserved end for the one truly innocent character.
