Filini, sometimes called an accountant and sometimes a surveyor, is a coworker of Fantozzi's and, in fact, his best friend. Both Filini and Fantozzi are forced to endure bullying from their superiors and ambitious colleagues and to participate in the bizarre initiatives of their company. Compared to his colleague, however, Filini appears decidedly more optimistic, cheerful, and enterprising, to the point that he often initiates the "tragic" initiatives in which Fantozzi is unwillingly forced to participate. Although they may be considered friends, Filini and Fantozzi treat each other with a certain formality, always addressing each other by their respective degrees and using the formal "Sir."
